# FiveM Escrow Errors

Common FiveM Asset Escrow errors and how to fix them.

Striga scripts are protected with **FiveM Asset Escrow**. Most of the code is locked, and the files you may change are open in each script's `editable/` folder.

Most escrow errors come from the license key, the upload or old server files. Check these first.

## Quick checklist

* The server uses a license key from the **Cfx.re account that bought the script**.
* Your **server artifacts** are up to date.
* The script was uploaded **complete** (with the `.fxap` file) and in **binary** mode.
* Only files in `editable/` were changed.

## Errors

<details>

<summary>"You lack the required entitlement to use ..."</summary>

The server's license key does not belong to the account that owns the script.

1. Open [portal.cfx.re](https://portal.cfx.re) with the account that bought the script.
2. Make a server license key there, or use one from that account.
3. Put it in `server.cfg` as `sv_licenseKey` and restart the server.

</details>

<details>

<summary>"Failed to verify protected resource ..."</summary>

The escrow file of the script is missing or damaged.

* Check the `.fxap` file is in the script folder. Some FTP clients hide or skip files that start with a dot.
* Download the script again from the Cfx.re Portal and upload it again.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Syntax errors or strange characters in a locked file</summary>

The upload changed the locked files. This happens when an FTP client uploads in **text (ASCII)** mode.

Set your FTP client to **binary** mode and upload the script again.

</details>

<details>

<summary>The script does not start after a server update or on an old server</summary>

Escrow needs recent **server artifacts**. Update your FXServer artifacts to the latest recommended build and restart.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I edited a locked file and now it fails</summary>

Locked files cannot be changed. Download the script again and only change files in `editable/`.

## Not an escrow error?

{% hint style="info" %}
A red line from **striga-core** like `... needs striga-core >= 0.1.0` is not an escrow error. It means striga-core is too old. See [Updates & Versions](/docs/updates-and-versions.md).
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Keep the folder names as shipped (for example `striga-core`, `striga-notify`). Striga scripts find each other by these names.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://striga.gitbook.io/docs/fivem-escrow-errors.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
